☀️ Solar Panel Finance

🔆 I was told my solar panels would pay for themselves. Can I complain?
Yes. If you were given misleading information about savings, energy generation, or payback periods, you may have grounds for a complaint. We can help you document what you were told versus what actually happened.
🔧 The installer arranged my solar panel finance. Is that a problem?
It can be. If the installer arranged the finance and you weren't given clear information about the terms, interest rates, or total cost, this may be unfair. You have a right to understand what you're signing.
❌ Can I cancel my solar panel finance agreement?
It depends on when you signed and the circumstances. You may have had a 14-day cooling-off period. If you were mis-sold the finance or given misleading information, you may still have grounds to complain even after this period.
⚠️ My solar panels don't work as promised. What can I do?
If the panels are faulty or underperforming, you should first contact the installer. If the finance was arranged by the installer and you were misled, you can also complain to the finance company about the mis-sale.

🏠 Kitchen & Home Improvement Finance

🍳 I'm still paying for a kitchen that was never finished. Can you help?
Yes. If you're paying for work that wasn't completed or was done poorly, you may have grounds to complain to the finance company. We can help you draft a letter explaining the situation and what you're seeking.
💔 The kitchen company went bust. Do I still have to pay the finance?
Unfortunately, in most cases, yes. The finance agreement is separate from the work contract. However, if the finance was mis-sold or you were given misleading information, you may have grounds to complain about the finance agreement itself.
❓ I didn't understand the finance terms when I signed. Is that grounds for complaint?
Possibly. If the terms weren't clearly explained, if you were pressured to sign, or if important information was hidden, you may have grounds for a complaint. We can help you document what happened.
📈 Can I complain about high interest rates on home improvement finance?
If the interest rate wasn't clearly disclosed, or if you were told it would be lower, you may have grounds for complaint. However, if the rate was clearly stated and you agreed to it, this alone may not be grounds for complaint.

🪟 Window & Double Glazing Finance

😰 I was pressured into signing a window finance agreement. What can I do?
If you were pressured, misled, or not given time to read the agreement, you may have grounds for complaint. We can help you document the circumstances and draft a complaint letter.
🚫 My windows are faulty. Can I stop paying the finance?
Do not stop paying without seeking advice first, as this can damage your credit rating. Instead, complain to both the installer and the finance company. If the finance was mis-sold, you may have grounds to challenge the agreement.
💸 The salesperson said the windows would save me money. They haven't. Can I complain?
Yes, if you were given specific promises about savings that haven't materialized, and these promises influenced your decision to take out finance, you may have grounds for complaint.

📋 The Complaint Process

🎯 Who do I complain to?
First, complain to the finance company that provided the loan. If they don't resolve it within 8 weeks, or if you're unhappy with their response, you can escalate to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
⏱️ How long does the complaint process take?
The finance company has 8 weeks to respond to your complaint. If you escalate to the Financial Ombudsman, it can take several months. We help you draft clear letters to speed up the process.
📝 What information do I need to make a complaint?
You'll need: your finance agreement, details of what you were told by the salesperson, dates and names, any correspondence, and evidence of the problem (photos, reports, etc.). We'll help you organize this information.
📅 Can I complain if I signed the agreement years ago?
Possibly. There are time limits for complaints (usually 6 years from the event, or 3 years from when you became aware of the problem). However, each case is different. We can help you assess whether you're within the time limits.
✉️ What happens after I submit my complaint?
The finance company will investigate and respond within 8 weeks. They may: uphold your complaint (offer compensation/cancellation), reject it (explain why), or offer a partial resolution. If you're unhappy, you can escalate to the ombudsman.

🛡️ Your Rights

📜 What are my rights under consumer credit law?
Under the Consumer Credit Act 1974, you have rights including: a cooling-off period, the right to clear information about costs, protection against unfair practices, and the right to complain if the finance was mis-sold.
🔐 What is Section 75 protection?
Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act makes the finance company jointly liable with the supplier for breaches of contract or misrepresentation. This applies to credit agreements between £100 and £30,000.
🏛️ What is the Financial Ombudsman Service?
The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) is a free, independent service that resolves disputes between consumers and financial companies. If your complaint isn't resolved by the finance company, you can escalate to the FOS.
👨‍⚖️ Do I need a solicitor to make a complaint?
No. You can make a complaint yourself, or use our letter-writing service to help you draft a clear complaint. You only need a solicitor if you're considering legal action, which is separate from the complaint process.
Important: This FAQ is for general information only and does not constitute legal advice. We are a letter-writing service, not a law firm. Every case is different, and outcomes cannot be guaranteed.
